I just solved this problem with my Nikon D5500 which previously never showed up as being connected in Finder or on the Desktop. I opened Image Capture, plugged in may camera & then turned it on. Lo & behold it showed up immediately in the Devices list. All you need to do from there is select your camera in Devices list. You should then select an app that you want to open automatically when your specific camera is connected via the dialogue on the bottom left of the IC window ('Connecting this camera opens.'
The only issue is that there are only 5 choices for import destinations. For whichever you select, if you use the ' Make subfolders per camera' option, the import winds up in a subfolder called (in my case) 'D5500'.
You can also select ' Other' and IC will then open a finder window - but without an option to create a new folder. If you want to put the photos in a new folder you will have to create it before the import if you want the files to go directly from the camera into that folder. Deselect the 'Make subfolders per camera' option. Apple Footer. This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only.
